Media Coverage

We are grateful for the coverage that the Status of Girls research has received.  We’d like to clarify that the Status of Girls Well-Being research findings comes from multiple data sources.  

  • The Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey (source Florida Department Health) was administered to 54,000 students in grades 6 through 12 in February of 2018.  The FL YSAS data includes:  safety in school, safety in neighborhood, grades, experiences of bullying, access to teacher, access to parent, substance use, sense of hopelessness, sadness, etc.

 

  • The Florida Youth Risk Behavior Survey (source Florida Department of Health) administered in schools across 50 counties in the state.  The FL YRBS data includes: forced sexual intercourse, dating violence, suicide ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempts.    

Survey data was supplemented by secondary datasets of the Florida Department of Education, Florida Department of Health vital statistics, Florida Department of Children and Families, and Florida Department of Juvenile Justice datasets.
